Glamour DMC Lures Golfers to Jamaica
Montego Bay, Jamaica (July 2010) – Since joining the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) in 2009, Glamour DMC, Jamaica’s leading destination management company, is placing more emphasis on golf tourism in Jamaica.
Known for its natural beauty, talented people, music, and culture, the island of Jamaica also boasts twelve unique golf courses. The year round accommodating weather, spectacular terrain and diverse golf courses provide the ultimate golf experience for novices and professionals alike. With more championship golf courses to perfect a swing than any other Caribbean destination, golfers planning a trip to Jamaica can choose from any of the magnificent courses that range dramatically in scenery.
Voted Golf Destination of the Year for the Caribbean and Latin America by the more than 300 members of the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), the courses in Jamaica are diverse with each bearing unique characteristics and designs to accommodate any golfer’s desire and level.
“As Jamaica’s leading destination management company, Glamour is pleased that we can offer golf courses with international golfing standards to our discerning clients,” said Rachel Anderson, the company’s director with responsibility for business expansion. “The courses have some of the world’s finest design and landscaping and as such Jamaica is in a good position to benefit from more international tournaments and increase golf tourism,” Ms. Anderson continued.
Four distinct golf experiences can be enjoyed in Jamaica’s tourism capital Montego Bay. Located in the exclusive Rose Hall enclave are Half Moon’s Robert Trent Jones Snr. designed forgiving yet challenging course which is perfect for every level of player; the Robert von Hagge and Rick Baril designed scenic and multiple elevation changes of the White Witch; Cinnamon Hill’s historic course with holes that play along the oceanfront and up into the lush hillside; and the SuperClubs Golf Club, an 18-hole course designed by Canadian Robert Motte, celebrated for its challenging layout with multiple blind holes and a relaxing club house.
Just on the out-skirts of Montego Bay is the Tryall Golf Club, an 18-hole, par-72 championship course designed by Ralph Plummer and has played host to prestigious international events such as the Johnnie Walker World Championship.
The Manchester Golf Club, located in the historic town of Mandeville, was established in 1868 to make it the oldest golf club in the Western Hemisphere. Nestled in the foothills approximately eight miles from Jamaica’s capital, Kingston, the prestigious Caymanas Golf & Country Club features elevated tees & greens with lush fairways meandering through rocky limestone hills. Many of these tees, set high in the hilltops, offer stunning views of the golf course.
Jamaica’s championship courses have been on show to the world having been host to a number of international tournaments including the LIME Jamaica Open, Shell's Wonderful World of Golf, Mazda Champions (LPGA Tour), The Jamaica Classic (LPGA Tour) and Johnnie Walker World Cup of Golf (PGA Tour).
